Mother’s Milk’s Concert Recommendations for 01/2010

Here’s Mother’s Milk’s guide to getting drunk in public for January of 2010.

Thu – 01/14/10 – Cracker, Camper Van Beethoven @ 930 (Washington, DC)
Thu – 01/21/10 – Enter the Haggis – Ashland Coffee and Tea *
Sat – 01/30/10 – Super Cornhole Tournament – The Hat Factory (formerly Toad’s Place)
Sun – 01/31/10 – Those Darlins @ Black Cat (Washington, DC)

This month is dead. Not only are there not many drunktastic bands playing, there just aren’t that many shows, period. Alas. Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven (partially the same band, really) are decent enough live and have a few solid drinking songs but they’re mostly included here because they’re localish. Enter the Haggis is the only real drankin’ show I found – I’ve never heard ’em but they’re apparently a quite good Celtic dealio; their website namechecks Black 47, which is a good sign. I didn’t know the “sport” of “cornholing” existed until recently, and I mostly included that event here because I couldn’t believe it existed, and it makes me laugh saying “cornhole.” You can buy drinks at the Hat Factory, anyways, and err… drunken cornholing sounds like a lot of fun! (insert Beavis & Butthead laugh here) Those Darlins are beloved by many, and I’ve played ’em a few times on the show. I like ’em well enough, though they are no Whiskey & Co., for what that’s worth. Those Darlins would be a must-see show if it weren’t in DC; as it is, I don’t know if I care enough to find a designated driver to take me up there.

DON’T MISS: Enter the Haggis on 01/21.

Shows marked with an asterisk are shows that Mothers Milk will definitely be attending. Feel free to buy us a drink. I’m just sayin’… I’ll be the long-haired cracker with a McCormack’s hoody.

As always, if you know a good show for gettin’ drunk and havin’ a good time, let us know. I’m not familiar with EVERY alcoholic that ever took to the stage, and I’m probably not even aware of every venue in RVA. Message me on Facebook or e-mail me at mothersmilkradio@gmail.comand I’ll update the list accordingly.
